really should have light mounting tabs welded on. You can get aftermarket clamp on tabs, but they really should be welded on by Rugged Ridge.
Also, the clamp design causes it to be structurally weaker than it would be if it were just welded to the bumper - which is what I’ll probably end up doing when it inevitably works itself loose.
Good aesthetics and nice looking, but designed and engineered poorly. Read Less
If you’re mounting a winch on a JK, you’ll need to move the vacuum canister someplace else. There’s a bracket provided with the kit, but most larger winches will still interfere in the relocated position. I moved it up into th...Read More
e engine compartment, and that seems like the obvious choice.
That being said…. Two things about this bumper annoyed me: first, one of the fog light housings is slightly askew where it was welded into place. You can’t really tell from the outside though, so it’s not a big deal.
The second one is the level of difficulty accessing and tightening the bolts that hold the winch in place. It is EXTREMELY difficult to insert the bolts into the holes from the bottom and tighten them. The frame crossmember is in the way, requiring a socket extension AND a socket U-joint adapter. It CAN be done, but it took me almost an hour to get four bolts in place. And the bumper MUST be mounted first, because you’ll never be able to tighten all the bumper mounting bolts if you mount the winch before mounting the bumper.
Honestly, when the time comes where I need to remove the winch, I intend to cut the frame crossmember out of the way first to access the bolts for the winch. I’ll weld it back in later… But yeah, it’s THAT hard to get to the bolts. So hard that it’s easier/faster to cut and reweld the frame crossmember than try to get to them as designed. Read Less
